Summer Report

Such a busy summer!  This year’s Artists of the Limberlost Open Studio Weekend has come and gone, and was a tremendous success.   The rain did not hold back the crowds (it was a perfect weekend to NOT be on the dock…) and even Sunday, usually a quieter day, was busy.  Hundreds of people enjoyed the amazing art we had to see, and sales were strong.  I still have many great pieces, so please feel free to contact me if you would like to arrange a visit to the studio.  Here is a sample of recent work, still available...

Next on my show agenda is the Apsley Autumn Studio Tour, September 17 & 18.  This is my 10 season as a guest artist with abstract painter Molly Moldovan, and I always look forward to our weekend together.  Her colourful paintings work in so many settings, and I am fortunate to own a few myself!
I round up the year at Made in Muskoka Christmas, a beautiful “boutique” fine craft show in Huntsville perfectly timed for Christmas giving, December 9-11.  But more on that later!

A fitting gift

In July I was invited to create a “going away” gift for the Bishop of Algoma, the Right Reverend Doctor Stephen Andrews, from All Saints’ Anglican Church, Huntsville.  He is leaving the Diocese of Algoma to become Principal of Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, where he will guide the education of future clergy.

I was honoured of course, and the concept came quickly to me; Northern Lights towering over a silhouette landform, reflecting in the dark water of the foreground.  Soaring earthward in the light, a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit.  Bishop Stephen has been in Sault Ste. Marie, and I wanted to combine a souvenir of the northern landscape, with the divine in the design.

Unfortunately, the timeline did not allow for professional photography, so I just have a few snapshots taken during the presentation in the parish hall, which I would not normally post, but I wanted to share this news somehow!  Believe me, it looks better in person.

The Bishop and his wife Fauna were genuinely impressed by the gift.  It was my great honour to have had the opportunity to create it for him.  We will miss his warmth, kindness, humour and insight, but of course wish him well as he embarks on his next adventure of service.

Spring Beauties!

March 13 2016
Spring beauties (detail)

This is a detail of a piece that was selected by the jurors at the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Spring Members Show,  for an "Award of Excellence for Glass".

Summer Beauties
It is always an honour to be recognized by one’s peers, who understand that it takes planning and experimentation, and a lot of careful, fine work to achieve this kind of detail in glass.
“Spring Beauties” is available for sale, along with her sisters, “Summer Beauties” and “Autumn Beauties”.  In fact, there is a fourth piece in this series too, featuring trilliums.  I should call it “Spring Beauties Too”!
